Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 26, 2026

GarageIQ ("GarageIQ", "we") operates a free service that gives homeowners a preliminary, automated garage door assessment and, if they ask, refers their request to one independent garage door company. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.

What we collect

  • Assessment information — symptoms you select, your description, photos and videos you upload, and how urgent the problem is. You can get an assessment without giving us your name or contact details.
  • Request information — if you ask for a quote: your ZIP code, name, phone number, and optionally email and street address.
  • Consent records — the exact consent text you agreed to, the company named in it, the time, the page, and a hashed (non-reversible) network identifier and browser type.
  • Usage and advertising data — pages visited, funnel steps completed, and campaign parameters (such as utm tags and ad click IDs) from the link that brought you here. If enabled, Google Analytics collects usage data under its own policies.

Photos are re-encoded in your browser before upload, which removes embedded location (GPS) metadata.

How we use it

  • To produce your assessment and show local price ranges.
  • To send your request to the single company you agreed to be contacted by, and to contact you about that request.
  • To prevent fraud, spam, and duplicate submissions.
  • To measure and improve our service and advertising.

Your description and photos may be processed by an AI service provider to generate the assessment. We instruct providers to use the data only to provide the service to us.

When we share your information

With one garage door company — only with your consent. Before you submit a request, we show you the name of the company that serves your ZIP code. If you agree, we share your request with that company only. The company pays us a referral fee. We do not sell or share your request with any other company without asking you first.

With service providers who help us operate (hosting, database, file storage, SMS and email delivery, payments for contractors, analytics, bot protection), under contracts limiting their use of your data.

For legal reasons, if required by law or to protect rights and safety.

Under some state laws, providing your information to a company that pays us a referral fee may be considered a "sale" or "sharing." We only do this with your express consent for that specific company, and you can opt out of any future sale or sharing at any time.

Calls and texts

The company you chose may call or text you about your request as described in the consent you gave. You can opt out of texts by replying STOP and of calls by telling the caller. Consent is never a condition of purchase.

Retention

We keep request data for as long as needed to provide the service, resolve billing with partner companies, and meet legal obligations. Consent records are kept as proof of consent. Photos and videos are deleted when you request deletion.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (including California), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold, to delete or correct it, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To make a request, use our privacy request form or email privacy@example.com. We will verify your identity before completing a request, typically by contacting the phone number or email you used.

Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls that limit each partner company to its own requests, audit logging, and hashed identifiers for duplicate detection. No system is perfectly secure.

Children

Our service is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.
